Ever increasing demand for electric power necessitates large generation capacity addition and commensurate increase in transmission and distribution network. It is projected that countries like India and China need transmission lines which carry more than 5000 MW over comparatively longer distances. It is understood that by increasing the transmission line voltage, power transmission of the desired order could be achieved. High Voltage transmission system by AC/DC necessitates the considerations of number of factors in the design of line and substation equipment with regard to right of way, insulation, insulation coordination, overvoltage, electromagnetic field effects, environmental effects etc. Further, it is also essential to consider proper testing, measurement, condition monitoring & fault diagnosis etc. of such large power equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation of the power system.

CPRI has been contributing significantly by way of research and testing of equipment for the development of high voltage transmission system in India. Recognizing the importance of various aspects involved in the field high voltage engineering, CPRI had organized two conferences on High Voltage Engineering in the years 2015 and 2017 at Hyderabad and Bengaluru, respectively. Third in this series, in technical co-sponsorship with IEEE Hyderabad section, CPRI is organizing a third International conference on “High Voltage Engineering & Technology” (ICHVET2019), during February 07-08, 2019 at Hyderabad, India. This conference provide a common platform to all stake holders, viz. manufacturers, utilities, researchers, policy makers, academicians, consultants, testing and O&M engineers etc. to share the latest developments.

Hyderabad with salubrious climate throughout is an attractive destination for tourists and professionals alike with its global IT fame and location of research centers of many global entities and surrounded by many historic and natural beauty spots. The average temperature during the month of February is between 18˚C to 25˚C.
